Youth advocate: CASA Volunteer

A look into your future councilwoman:

In January, I was appointed by the courts to be a volunteer of CASA of Adams and Broomfield Counties. For those who don't know, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization that trains community volunteers to represent the best interests of our most vulnerable citizens - child victims of physical, sexual or emotional abuse and neglect.

As a volunteer advocate, I ensure that the child(ren) I am assigned to has a voice in court and that the judge receives up-to-date, important information so that decisions may be made regarding the child's educational and health related needs, therapy, visitation, and ultimately permanency within a home.

I invite you to attend our Light of Hope event on October 19. It was at this event last year I decided I wanted to volunteer with this amazing organization. Becoming a CASA volunteer is a life-changing experience that makes our community a better place.
